Students work with us to create a range of video content for different purposes.
Video Support Assistants (VSAs)
The Video Support Assistants (VSAs) are a team of media students who work jointly for Digital Student Life and Digital Education on a weekly basis, primarily producing video content. Working up to 15 hours a week, the students come from a range of courses and levels. The whole ethos of the VSAs is student-as-producer; we facilitate the projects, but aim to put the student in the driving seat of forming and shaping the video output.
This student-led approach has developed since its launch in Autumn 2016 into an in-house video production service for the University, with the team being commissioned by Schools and Departments to create a range of video content, as well as providing digital workshops, technical advice and support.
We normally recruit at the beginning of every year via Career Linc to bring in new students to develop and strengthen our team; we also look to work with students on an ad-hoc basis to widen our developmental opportunities to more students. We aim to ensure that the team is diverse, with a range of students from different fields, disciplines & specialisms. This means we can also produce animation, photography, design, narration and much more.
The benefits of this approach are win-win, producing video work internally saves the University money, while also giving media students practical experience in their chosen field and material for their portfolios.
We are also always on the look out for new student vloggers to join our content creation team. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with an example vlog, if you’re interested in getting involved.
